I am an amateur photographer and interested in experimenting with and producing 3d photos and 3d video images, in particular macro images of flowers and insects.
Thanks David. I used a Nikon 1 V1 camera with Nikon 10-30mm lens ( set to 30mm ) and 10mm extension tube. With this combination the lens tip is about 5cm from the subject for focusing. This particular dragonfly allowed me to get this close.
Thanks Craig. Yes this is the female, which does not have the orange tip, and it can get identified as the cabbage white.
The Orange tip has no interest in feeding on cabbages. There are a lot of male and female Orange tips around at the moment. I had been thinking of getting a 3d image of the male in a similar pose as this shot is. Unfortunately they are difficult to get close to. I may have to use my dual rig set-up to get a successful capture.
Very nice bokeh shot, and what a beautiful and interesting looking butterfly! Though with this being the first photo I've ever seen of this particular butterfly myself, I was kind of wondering how it got its name, then I searched Google a bit to see more images of it . . . and WOW !
What a stark contrast between the upper wing and under wing views on these little beauties . . . I'm assuming this is a female without any orange, and I know it's far from identical, but from the top the female is similarly colored to the cabbage white variety without having the orange on her tips!
I also looked at the couple male images you had posted from almost a year and 2 years ago, and I hope you get a couple more nice new shots of the male version with his orange tips for us to look at this year too!
