I have always visited Mikawaya in the Mito city, Japan, on the very first day of the opeing on a year for these several years, but for this year, 1 day later.

The master is usually absent for the opening day, because he is involved in a party among the ex-members of a highschool baseball club he belonged. However, it was not the case for this year - one of the contributors was because he was suffered from a very bad cold since the end of the last year.

He is a son of a SOBA (a Japanese noodle) restaurant.
Here in Japan, there is a cultural habitant to have SOBA on the new year eve, and so many people visit SOBA restaurants on the day.
His father started his business, so his restaurant is not a traditional one, but his restaurant has been picked up by the Japan public broadcast station subsidiary for these several years, with many of traditional restaurants left.

The broadcaster staff had been stood by for the opening of the restaurant on the new year eve, but a strong earthquake took place on the morning. The broadcaster staff told that they needed to withdraw, and left. The restaurant people got relaxed. However, the broadcaster staff surprisingly came back, and the restaurant staff went into panic, it was said.
